HIGH SCHOOL WORKSHOP
Live by Design, Not by Default
A half-day, hands-on experience that helps students build self-awareness before they're asked to choose a path.
3.5 Hours · In-person · Team-Based
This high school workshop is custom-designed, drawing on key elements of the Becoming You Methodology, developed at NYU Stern by Professor Suzy Welch.
Cora & Courtenay, certified Becoming You Practitioners, collaborated with professors and educators to adapt the methodology for high school students - creating a fun, interactive, screen-free workshop.
Sound Familiar?
I don't really know what I'm good at
Everyone keeps asking what I want to do, and I don't have an answer
I just go along with what's expected of me
I want to feel like I actually know myself
This workshop gives students a structured, supported space to start answering those questions — through conversation and assessment data, guided by practitioners certified in the Becoming You Methodology
The goal isn't to have all the answers — it's to ask better questions and build the self-awareness to navigate a world you can't predict.
What You’ll Explore
Through reflection, assessment, and real teamwork, students spend their time discovering how they think, what they value, and how that translates into the real world — guided by the same methodology taught at NYU Stern, adapted for high school.
Living by Design
What it means to make intentional choices, and why self-knowledge is the foundation for good decisions in a world that's hard to predict.
✦
Your Values
A guided reflection exercise unpacked first in small groups, then as a full group — followed by The Values Bridge, an assessment created by Professor Suzy Welch at NYU Stern.
✦
Your Aptitudes
The YouScience assessment — one of the most respected aptitude tools available — reveals how each student is naturally wired, unpacked together in an interactive debrief.
✦
The Workshop Flow
Part 01 - Living by Design vs. Living by Default
Drawing on core ideas from the Becoming You Methodology, we open by introducing the difference between drifting through decisions and making them intentionally — and why knowing yourself is the starting point.

Part 02 - Values Reflection
A guided personal reflection exercise. Students unpack what they discover first in small groups, then with the full group — building comfort with sharing and realizing they're not the only ones with these questions.

Part 03 - The Values Bridge
Students complete The Values Bridge, created by Professor Suzy Welch at NYU Stern, surfacing what matters most to them and where gaps might exist between their values and how they're currently living.

Part 04 - YouScience Aptitudes, Unpacked
Using results from the YouScience assessment, students explore what they're naturally wired to do well — through an interactive, game-like group debrief, not a worksheet.

Part 05 - Team Project: Aptitudes in Action
Students split into two groups and take on a real project challenge, assigning roles based on each person's aptitude profile — experiencing firsthand how self-knowledge shapes how teams work best.
